I took these to help sell her, but she’s already sold, woo! I want to post them anyway, I think they do a great job of showing all of the hard work that went into her. Especially all of the freckles.
Last pics of my old sculpts, for now/
Roughly in order of oldest to newest. I only just started using reference here, and you can already see the improvement. I’m entirely self taught, aside from one short class this year, and some books!
Some of my thoughts on each picture on the captions. :)
Set 2 of my old sculptures. Roughly in order of oldest to newest.
Most of my dolls back then had hands that were too large, proportionally, because, fuck, faces are harder enough to sculpt at that scales, fingers are pretty much impossible!
Some of my thoughts on each picture on the captions. :>
Wow, I was not expecting so many people to like the pic of my latest sculpture! And several expressed interest in pics of my older work. So why not, here they are! :)
Keep in mind that these are really old! This first batch is the oldest, most of these I did at least four years ago when I was fourteen. I tried to order them with the oldest first, but as most of the pictures didn’t have dates and I didn’t keep a log, I had to go by my very faint memories. Most things aren’t finished here, some I didn’t have pictures of done, and mostly I’m just horrible at completing things.
I know I’ve done more than this, I can think of a couple that are at my moms house, and ones that I gave away, but a lot were lost in a fire.
Some of my thoughts on each picture on the captions. :>
I’m finally ready to sell her. You can find her on etsy, here.
Gosh, I painted her while ago, but I still love love her face. And those freckles! I need to take a picture in good lighting of her nude, so you can see all the freckles covering her body and the lace panties I made her. Was gonna do that today, but it snowed. I can’t wait for it to be warm again, I almost miss the Texas heat, ha.
She has rerooted hand dyed mohair, custom made horns and a completely flexible + poseable devils tail. Her wings are the CAM dragons, dyed black. Tail and wings are easy to remove and reattach. Face and body are fully blushed and painted, covered in realistic freckles. She has neat black nailpolish w/ red sparkles, and white lace panties.
I made her dress and shoes myself. I drafted the dress pattern, so you won’t find it anywhere else. It’s 100% cotton and closes in the back with thin low profile velcro. I also made the shoes from scratch, cast the heel in resin and then covered it with black pleather and foam for the soles. She can stand carefully on her own in the shoes if on a flat, level surface.
Please don’t forget to credit me if you post these photos elsewhere, and on tumblr reblog, not repost. Thanks for looking! ;)
Before I got into repainting dolls, I would sculpt tiny people with polymer clay! I stopped for a while after falling in love with MH dolls, but I still love creating faces. Heres one I started just recently. I’m a bit rusty, but I like how her face turned out, her body is still in progress. It’s hard to tell here, but her face is not even an inch big, before I usually sculpted even smaller. I’ll paint her eyes on with acrylic after she’s completely done baking, UV resin is too troublesome to deal with right now. And then give her some mohair hair and make her a tiny outfit~
I’m thinking of posting pictures of sculpts I did several years ago, they’re not that good though. :P
Have you tried Purity Seal Satin Varnish as a sealant. I read somewhere that it is not affected by the weather ? That could be a really nice thing but I don't know how toxic it is.
It does not work for the vinyl head, but works great for the hard plastic body. In fact that’s what I use to body blush. I wouldn’t know about the weather thing, sorry, I use a spray booth inside. And it’s rather stinky, so it’s definitely toxic. I’m sure that unless they’re water based, all spray paints are rather toxic. And even with non-toxic ones, you’re still spraying fine particles in the air and it’s never good to breathe them in. Always wear proper safety gear, it’s not that pricey, much cheaper than the health care you might need if you’re not safe.
Good luck, and be safe! :)
Thanks everyone for allowing me to vent before!
Special thanks to @nocturna-fangor : You’re totally right! Thanks for taking the time to talk to me, what you said helped me calm down and put the anxiety out of my head. :)
And much thanks to @robokittycat : It’s so sweet of you to say that! And it makes me feel less like I’m just annoying people with posts like these, lol. :3
I saw the prize doll you sent to neferanotebook! It was a very pretty repaint! That box she was in was so nice! Where do you get those if you dont mind me asking you? :]
Hey, Thank you! You’re sweet! :)
About the boxes, I know some else asked as well, but I can’t find where, sorry! Anyway, I got them off papermart.com, here. Make sure to get both the base and the slider, they’re sold separately. And if you want a window, get the rectangular one, not the circle window. The circle is located at the wrong height for a MH doll and you can’t see all of their face. They should just fit MH boys, but not EAH boys, they’re too big.
Sorry for the pic heavy post, I just had to share this beauty with the world! I won Madeleinemaisudios's giveaway and got this amazingly repainted Draculaura along with a handmade dress and several extra goodies for her! It's funny how much I love this doll considering Draculauras never catch my eye. Whereas Lala's heavy, dark makeup and violent pinkness turn me way way off, this Lala is the opposite, opting for a more natural, fresh faceup. I changed her hair a bit, pulling her bangs away from that gorgeous face and added a cinched belt to her dress; I hope the creator doesn't mind ^^.
The doll itself is stunning. Her serene face is mysterious, yet inviting. It’s like she’s all prim and proper, but she’s hiding a secret. Her handmade dress is a perfect fit and the baroque pattern gives her a sophisticated air. Her little handmade shoes are the cutest things ever and her earrings match her pendant. I’m really amazed at all the little details (like the hand blushing) and the hard work that went into her face and her accessories. My prize even came with a matching earring and pendant set for me! I felt like a little girl again, despite being twenty-two years old >_< !
The talented Miss Madeleine was extremely generous with her prizes, thank you again! I love it!
Wonderful pictures!!! Thank you so for posting them. I love what you did with her hair and accessories, she looks great. :D And I love the persona you created for her, it makes me so happy when people connect with one of the dolls I helped create. Having the new owner bring them life like this is wonderful. Thanks again, you’ve made me really happy! ;)
Woo! I’m glad everything arrived safely! Thanks for posting pics, its great that you like the dress. :)
Hey all, I’ve been having a rather meh last couple of weeks. :c There’s been a minor family emergency, several almost-migraines, my dad broke his ankle and I went to the dentist. Oh, and after ‘training’ for a month, I had my first two days completely on my own at my work. The first day was fine, though I had to make a lot of calls, but the second day, friday, was awful, awful awful.
hi! i was recently interested in doing a repaint of my mh doll and found your flickr tutorial and material tutorial list on here really informative. i realized i have all the supplies already bc of my crafty sister! (: i was wondering though, what do you use to gloss the eyes/make them look really watery and lifelike? i couldn't find info on that step. thanks so much, your repaints are incredible!
Thanks for your praise!
I use Liquitex or Golden acrylic gloss varnish. I haven’t decided which I like best yet. :) Liquitex is likely cheaper, easier to find and work with. Be sure to apply in thin layers with a clean brush, and allow each layer to dry several hours in between. I also use Sakura 3d Crystal Lacquer sometimes to add depth. I like that it stays flexible, so I won’t have to worry about it cracking. I go over it with Liquitex/Golden for their non yellowing properties.
Hi all! I chose the winners to my giveaway tonight, congratulations to neferasnotebook for winning the first prize and to oswinsadventures for winning the second!!! :) I sent you both a message, I hope it reached you. If not, I simply need you to send me your physical addresses so I can ship you your prizes. If you prefer to use email, mine is firstname.lastname@example.org. And like I said in the rules, I’ll cover up to $10 in shipping costs, anymore and you’ll need to reimburse me. That should be enough if you live in the US, if you don’t, it’ll likely be more. Btw, I got boxes for my dolls! I’m really excited, they look so nice!!! :D You can see a hint above. They’re more for display, not shipping, so my dolls will still be shipped thoroughly packaged and protected with bubble wrap and tissue paper in a USPS box!
The winners were chosen completely randomly, using a random list generator. I plan to have another giveaway with a repaint in a couple of months! And very soon I want to give away all the extra fused glass jewelry I have lying around. There is a fair amount, so it can be less raffle like and more first come first serve. Would anybody be interested?
Woo! I talked about this before, and finally I’m pretty much ready. I will be giving away several handmade items to celebrate my followers. It starts today, December 27 2013, and will end in two weeks on January 10 17 2014.
First, you must be following me! I don’t post that often and usually only MH/art related things.
Second, you can enter by reblogging this post and you reblog up to three times. Only one a day, please. Likes won’t count.
Third, you must be willing to give me your address and have your parents permission if you’re under 18/still living with them.
Fourth, I will ship to anywhere in the world, but I will only pay up to $10 in shipping fees. So, free shipping in the US, and you have to cover the rest if you’re internationally located.
Finally, if you win, you have to take and post pictures of the prizes once you get them. I can’t really enforce this, but it would make me really really happy if you did this! I love seeing pictures from the people who get my dolls! <3
There will be one first place winner and one second place winner. I will choose the winners randomly and contact you within several days of Jan 10 17th. You must reply within 2 days or I will choose someone else.
The first place winner will receive the pictured above custom Draculaura repainted by me, the handmade black dress + purple shoes she’s wearing, another unshown pair of shoes, a black stand, and purple handmade fused glass pendant + earrings.
Second place will get a blue handmade fused glass pendant and earring set as well and the hand sewn dress, plus a silver pair of handmade shoes pictured below.
Note, the green Cyclops doll above is not second prize, only the dress and shoes she’s wearing! She’ll be up for sale later. ;)
Thank you, all my 323 400 followers!
The deadline has been extended, it ends tomorrow. Please enter if you haven’t yet! Or reblog again, as I noticed not that many people reblogged this more than once and you can reblog up to three times to get more entries and chances to win.
Thanks a bunch to all my followers! You guys make it all worth it! :P
