This isn’t the best picture, the sun goes away at 4:30 here and the camera wouldn’t focus. This is the only pic that turned out. She looks happier irl, lol.
She’ll come with a dress and the first part of my repaint tutorial featuring her will be up soon. :>
The latest pic of Jina! Thanks everyone who told me to go with the red eye shadow, you were totally right. ;)
I think she’s almost done, just a couple of things to finish. With the new dog and this string of migraines I’ve been experiencing these last couple of days, I haven’t been getting much done, online and off. Thanks the-wolfbats, shardzofwind, teddiebear13x, beansproutmomo, gotmefallinapart, and apocketfullofpokemon for your comments! You all made my week. :3
Sunspotflares asked if I took commissions… I have before, but overwhelmed myself with them for a long time, so right now I’m taking a long break from them and just doing my own dolls. Thanks for the interest, I’ll post here in the future if I have my slots open again. :)
Btw, I got a blob and ice girl! I’m going to make the blob girl into a jellyfish chick and leave the ice girl an ice girl. I had never realized before looking at pictures that her entire body is a unique carved ice sculpt, it’s awesome! First, I have to contact Mattel for the third time cuz blob gal came with two right hands, ARGHH, wish me luck with that.
Sorry, I meant to post earlier, but a lot of things have happened these last couple of days! I’ll reply to people tomorrow. I also did some work on the giveaway Draculaura and took pictures of all the steps so I can post a short tutorial soon as well.
My dad, stepmom and I got a new dog! My mom has three dogs at her house but my dads house has been dogless for a while now. She’s a maltese poodle mix and her name is Lucy! My dad found her on craigslist and shes two years old + well trained.
I’ve never had a small dog, so before they brought her home I was worried she’d be really hyper and yappy. But she’s actually really sweet and calm! She loves just staying on the couch and being stroked. She is so cute!!
New doll I’m working on! And an over sketch of what she’ll roughly look like when done.
I know I have all these other dolls in progress, but I just couldn’t resist! I’m only doing her face, nothing else, so I can finish her quickly and put her up for a reasonable price. Btw, I sold Plum! I’m so very happy! She had to be relisted once, which disappointed me at the time. Turns out I had no cause to worry though, as she was bought for $175! I just shipped her off to Russia today. :3
Thank you everyone for all your lovely comments! I’ve decided that I need to start replying. I always felt bad not thanking each and everyone! I didn’t before because I’m awkward and didn’t want to clog up dashes or my blog. But I really want to, so from now on I will.
I completed my last ged test this yesterday, my writing, and got my score back already. I’m super happy, I have an average of 706 out of 800. YES
About the sketches, I can’t decide whether I should give her red eyeshadow or not. What do you think, too strong or just right?
A very basic sketch of the monster high custom repaint I’m planning on making and giving away soon. She’ll be so much cuter irl.
I wanna give her soft pink sparkly winged eyeliner. The dress she’ll wear is the same shape and color but has a pattern. It’s unlikely that she’ll be done in time for christmas. We’ll see! :)
Hi there, I was wondering what would be the best materials/technique to paint both body and vinyl head MH dolls to change the color? Thanks so much for the tutorials, they're really helpful!
I’m not completely sure myself. There are several different techniques out there. Some people have had success using a matte spray on sealant and changing the color with layers of pastels. You can only go darker, though.
A pretty reliable method is using vinyl spray paint meant for cars. It adheres very well to both kinds of plastic and applies smooth and matte. The downsides are that it’s very stinky for several hours and you have to use a half mask w/ organic vapor filters and spray it in a well ventilated area not too cold or humid. And because the joints are a special kind of plastic, you would probably have to sand them first if you don’t want them to chip. Also, your color choices are fairly limited even if you order it online.
You can try dyeing with rit dye perhaps, but the lower legs, body and head will all take the dye differently and it’s hard to not get splotches. Dye apparently will fade from vinyl rather quickly too.
One thing that I only read about as a possibility recently on tumblr is using Flashe vinyl paint. It is supposed to be very opaque, matte, smooth and have very little color shift. I’m going to try and have my stepmom get some for me to try out when she goes to Portland this weekend. I’ll report my results if I manage to get a hold of it!
I don’t know if this has been all that helpful. Changing a MH dolls skintone successfully is pretty difficult.
I’m glad you like my tutorials, I’m going to try and post some more when I have free time. :)
I recently went to a new dentist, and she had a big fish tank in the waiting room. There was a large fish similar to a pirahna, at least eleven years old, with the most beautiful eyes! I was very inspired by it and some of the other fish in the tank. I’m trying to give her eyes the mottled color and texture real fish eyes have. And copper eyeliner, as the big fish had tons of gorgeous copper spots everywhere. Still a long way to go on her face!
Her mohair is pretty wild, I think I need to cut it. The pink part is flocked, but idk, it doesn’t look as good as I hoped… I might just glue some really short fibers there by hand. Or maybe finally try out the static grass applicator that my dad made for me!
Her body is in progress, it’s freckled like her face! I’ll be giving her several tattoos, and I’m thinking about a fish hook piercing on her eyebrow. It might be to hard to do, we’ll see.
What do you think?
Current state of my pink monster high Cyclops repaint! I still have some more work to do on her face, but she is pretty close to done.
She was a CAM unicorn add on pack. I modified her eye area to make it much smoother and a more ‘realistic’. It was pretty simple, I just froze her head so the vinyl was harder and easier to sand. I used diamond files to remove the nose bridge where her eye would be.
And then I rounded it out a bit with Golden flexible molding paste. Then did a bit more sanding and smoothing with rubbing alcohol to make the paste completely smooth! I used the same method with the mint Cyclops. You can see some of the bare modeling paste in my post before this with all the WIP pictures.
Anyway, she’ll have a wig and outfit soon, and then be up for grabs! :3
Some progress pics of the dolls I did while I wasn’t posting. These pics are sorta old, all of these girls are much further along at the moment. But I know I always enjoy seeing even the very beginning stages of a repaint, so I bet other people do too! :)
I’ll be giving Twyla a short black wig. She has such a strong face, I think a pixie cut will suit her perfectly. I’m thinking of a light brown wig in two braids for the pink Cyclops. I’ve given Lagoona a blond mohawk. And I’m not sure what wig I should make for the mint Cyclops… BTW, they all are on temp bodys for now, while I blush their real bodies.
I’ve been posting less than I’d like, mainly because I still have a cold. It’s so frustrating! My nose and throat are burning. arghh
The ebay auction for Plum will be ending soon! I’ve gotten a lot of watchers but no bids. This is my first time selling on ebay, so I’m not sure if that’s good or bad. :>
Thank you all so much for the likes, reblogs and comments you give me! They always make me so so happy! I am just so grateful for my followers, it’s unbelievable how sweet you are. *hugs* :D
Thanks for looking!
Okay, she’s up for sale! Here is the listing on ebay.
This is my first time selling on ebay, I’m nervous… :P
I hope she finds a wonderful new home! Thanks for looking. :)
I’ll be posting her for sale later today!
I intended to do this earlier, but I was sick for a couple of days. orz
Her hair is a bit messy, I was in a hurry and couldn’t find the boars bristle brush I use for mohair. It was really hard to decide which photos to post, she is just so photogenic she looks wonderful in all of them! ;>
Here’s beautiful Plum! That’s what I’m calling her for now, tho I’m sure her new owner will rename her. But in my mind she’ll always be plum, for her gorgeous hair.
I’m so happy she’s done! It took me a while, I was mostly dragging on making the outfit. Stretchy stuff is hard to sew! Turns out my lower bobbin tension was fucked up, and it was much easier going after fixing that. Yay!
She’ll be going up on etsy (or I might try ebay for the first time) soon, for around $150. A lot of work went into her and I think it shows! ;)
She was originally a sister pack Clawdeen. I repainted her face + body, hand dyed mohair + rerooted her, painted her nails, bought her pants and sewed her tank top. She has thick soft purple mohair on her head, and bright goldish brown eyes with sparkley eyeshadow and liner. Her beautiful lips are painted a shimmery wine color and semi glossed. And her nails are polished in gold. She has two hand painted tattoos, scratch marks on her tummy and the phases of the moon along her spine.
I bought her jeans from OSullyEmporium and made her shirt myself. It is made of cotton rib knit with a ruffly hem. Her plastic accessories and shoes came with the doll. The rose chair is just a prop for the photos, it comes from a disney princess royal dining room set.
To best see the details, open the post in another tab and click on the pics. More to come. Thanks for looking, please don’t repost here and don’t share elsewhere without crediting me. :)
Hello! How are you? So, how you open the liv doll head? How you cut it? wich material do you use? Tky :*
Hello! Good, you?
I cut the Liv dolls head open with a sharp exacto knife very carefully along the circular seam on top. Cutting a v notch or two will help you line it up and keep it in place when you put the scalp back on.
Hi. I just discorvered your blog through your suri alpaca wig you made. and I need to know if you made wefts out of your alpaca hair to make the wig or did you use the glue method. I would really appreciate if you answer :)
I used water proof fabric glue to make both the wig cap (and fabric) and attach the fiber. It worked quite well, though it made a mess on my table and hands and took a couple of tries to get the top part right. Maybe practice that part first. Tweezers and toothpicks help. :)
I hope this helps you, sorry it took me so long to answer. Good luck!
